Mr. Gorgeous

Posted on: April 30th, 2013 by Madison Lake No Comments

I had a phone call from a good friend of mine the other day. She was crying, and this particular friend rarely lets her guard down. Apparently she suspects her husband of twelve years is having an affair. She claims to have proof, although I didn’t press her for that information, I just listened.

When I hung up I began to think of all the women (and a few men) I’ve know over the years who have been subjected to this sort of relationship upheaval, and have often wondered if perhaps we humans aren’t meant to be monogamous. Or else we just have to kiss (and hurt) a few frogs before finding the right mate (soulmate?).

However, not all of us are inclined to keep hunting once we’ve found love. Cheating, fooling around, affairs of the heart, whatever you want to call it, is a highly complex topic of human behavior that I find quite fascinating. I’d love your feedback, or better yet, send in your questions, comments or sad stories to our Tippy Claret at I’d love to hear what she has to say.

Meanwhile, Mr. Gorgeous called. First date is Friday night.

Stay tuned…

Tis The Season

I detest the flu. Loathe its very existence. I even had the flu shot, but alas, Friday night, what I thought was one of my hot fantasies climbing into bed with me, turned out to be Mr. Flu. He wrapped his claw-like hands around my naked, feverish body, squeezed my intestines with his vice grip, and settled in for an agonizing eight hours of night sweats not of the erotic ilk. In the morning he was still hanging around.

Friday night could have been so different. I met Mr. Gorgeous in aisle five at the supermarket while reaching up to snag a box of Mango Mochi from the top shelf of the freezer. “Let me get that for you,” a husky voice purred from behind. I saw a large, muscular, arm reach over my head and lift not one but two packets of that delicious creamy taste treat from the shelf. “They’re the best, aren’t they?” I imagined honeyed bourbon on his lips.

Mr. Gorgeous and I flirted briefly in front of the open freezer door, and just when I thought we were closing in on a number exchange, in came Mr. Flu, making his first appearance. “Ooh, it’s cold in here,” I said, my voice quivering, my body flushed with sudden heat. There was an uncomfortable moment where neither of us knew what to say or do next. After all, there was a third wheel with us now. Damn that Mr. Flu!

Mr. Gorgeous did get my number, and he did call. Sadly, I was still sharing my bed with Mr. Flu, however, it is now Tuesday, and although not entirely recovered, last night Mr. Gorgeous, or at least the fantasy of him, did climb into my bed.

We’ll see…

It’s a Matter of Manners

Posted on: April 9th, 2013 by Madison Lake No Comments

I love my cell phone. I use it for making phone calls, texting, scouring the internet, music, YouTube, and sometimes posting my blogs. But I still have some boundaries around its use. For instance, I do not use it as a phone when I’m in a restaurant, unless it’s an emergency, and then I take it outside. Call me old fashioned, but I think it impolite to carry on a personal telephone conversation in a public place where people go to enjoy food and drink and the company they are with. Most matters, I’ve found, can wait.

Last time I wrote I was in the heat of a new relationship, filled with longing, joy and the hope of love. As we know, a lot can happen in a week.

To my dismay (and horror) I found that my ‘Fred’ did not have the same value system around this issue of the cell phone as I did. My fear increased as I saw that same lack of integrity play out in other social environments. (Perhaps I will go into that in more detail someday).

I think ‘Fred’ and I made it till week six when I politely suggested we go our separate ways, and that no, I did not want to be friends. If I wanted to be friends I would have continued dating the guy. Besides my friends don’t ever have cell phone conversations when they’re with me, and I love them for that, and many, many other things.

However, I’m home now, if you want to give me a shout…

Till next week…
